CLOVENFORDS ---> TRACK FROM MEIGLE FARM TO MEIGLE HILL and
WALLACE'S PUTTING STONE (cairn) ---> DESCEND NE, then ENE TO
CHEVIOT VIEW ---> GALASHIELS.
Route Four.
MELROSE ---> EILDON HILL NORTH ---> EILDON WESTER HILL ---> ST.
CUTHBERT'S WAY VIA BROAD WOOD, BOWDEN, WHITELEE, NEWTOWN ST. BOS-

These five walks, following roads, tracks and paths, would be suitably undertaken during late autumn, winter and early spring. In high summer, the dense vegetation and bland verdancy does nothing, in my view, to enhance the landscape. Yet in late October and April/May, the rich pageantry of colour is little short of spectacular: indeed, sights to behold...
The Selkirk/Galashiels/Melrose area is covered by a good public transport network with links to the cities of Edinburgh and Carlisle. Information can be obtained at Galashiels Bus Station.
